Description

Dr Susan O’Mahony graduated with Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree from the University of Queensland in 1998. She completed her Residency at the Gold Coast Hospital before travelling to the UK, training in General and Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery for two years.

In 2001 she was appointed to a Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Fellowship and gained a Masters Degree from the University of Cambridge in England, researching the problem of Lymphoedema (Arm Swelling) in Breast Cancer patients as a side effect of their treatment. She has published widely on this and other Breast Cancer related topics (see publications). Her research led to the degree of Doctorate of Medicine (MD), for which she was awarded the Ralph Noble Prize for the best clinical Doctorate, also from the University of Cambridge, and a long-standing interest in Breast Surgery.

On her return to Queensland Dr O’Mahony completed her preliminary surgical training and entered Advanced Surgical Training in General Surgery before being accepted onto the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Training Program of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. She undertook her Specialist training at the Princess Alexandra, Mater, Royal Brisbane and Greenslopes Hospitals in Brisbane, before being awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
